Guest Jack Holt Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Samsung is looking to add biometric functions to its mobile security system, Knox and in doing so expanding these sensors to budget phones as well. “We’re looking at various types of biometric [mechanisms] and one of things that everybody is looking at is iris detection,” Rhee In-jong, Samsung’s senior vice president, told analysts and investors in Hong Kong. Rhee is the lead in the development of the Knox software. Samsung’s first phone to use a fingerprint scanner is the Galaxy S 5 and currently uses the scanner for biometric authorization and to make authenticate PayPal purchases, among other things. Samsung hopes to win over more corporate clients as its been struggling to compete with rivals. According to Rhee, there are 87 million devices that have Knox embedded in them but only 1.8 million of those devices are actively using Knox. Those included in the 1.8 million are banks, healthcare and finanical companies. Rhee also hopes that Knox will make its way into other industries as well despite vulnerability worries. source: The Wall Street Journal Come comment on this article: Samsung to add biometric sensor functions to Knox Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more!
