Guest Brendan Lynch Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Samsung has just made an interesting move that could shed some light on the company’s future smartwatch plans. In a recent patent application, Samsung detailed a method of controlling a smartwatch not with touch, but by the waving of your hands. Samsung certainly has a history of unique gestures in their devices, beginning with the Galaxy S 4. It was with the S4 that Samsung introduced the concept of controlling functions like scrolling and swiping without touching the screen of your device. While these gestures weren’t a huge selling point for the device, they remained when Samsung launched the updated Galaxy S 5. Now, it seems as though they will be taking a similar approach with an upcoming smartwatch. The patent outlines an interesting feature that will give the user the ability to “flick” content to their TV with their finger. Additionally, it appears as though you will be able to select objects or links by simply pointing at them. This is certainly not surprising as the introduction of Android Wear showed that the industry is leaning towards a hands-off approach. Additionally, we have come to expect an Android Wear device from Samsung to either accompany or replace their Galaxy Gear devices. While these functions are certainly unique and impressive, they will have to be convenient and flawless in order for users to use them instead of simply touching their devices, something that Samsung has yet to pull of with their handsets. source: USPTO via: Engadget Come comment on this article: Samsung reportedly working on hand-controlled smartwatch Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more!
