Guest Brendan Lynch Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 With Google’s recent acquisition of Nest for $3.2 billion, it is clear that the company is interested in making a push into people’s homes. Google is now reportedly in talks to take the next step in this process by acquiring Dropcam, a startup specializing in video monitoring for the home. While we are unsure what stages this acquisition is in, or if it is even still on the table, the fact that Google was even interested in the company in the first place suggests Google is ready to take the home more seriously. Dropcam’s cloud-based video monitoring give users the ability to access surveillance of their homes anywhere they have a network connection. Perhaps their most popular products are Dropcam Tabs. These are small devices that you can place on windows, doors, devices, and even pets. The tabs will then tell you if a window or door is being opened or where your devices and pets actually are. Combining this technology with Nest’s popular thermostats could put Google at the forefront of the connected home movement. While the acquisition of Dropcam could end up not going through, it is clear that Google is interested in this type of technology going forward. source: The Information via: The Verge Come comment on this article: Google reportedly acquiring Dropcam, pushing further into the home Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more!
