Guest Robert Nazarian Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Last week, news broke that Samsung is getting into the Virtual Reality headset game, but there wasn’t a whole lot of information about it. Now a few more details are being reported by Engadget. The first question that came to my mind when I heard the news is how the hell could Samsung create such a device without having much gaming experience like Oculus VR and Sony? Well it turns out that Samsung is working with Oculus VR on this product. Yup, that’s the same company that created the Oculus Rift and was bought by Facebook. Oculus VR is taking care of the software while Samsung handles the hardware. Now you might be asking yourself why would Oculus VR do this? It’s simple, they need next-gen OLED screens for the Oculus Rift and it so happens that Samsung is a major player in that category. By helping Samsung, they can guarantee themselves a decent supply. At the same time, Samsung wants this device to get to market quickly, and they couldn’t do it without the help of Oculus VR. We also learned a little bit more about the device itself. Apparently, it will use the phone as the screen. So you would plug your phone into the contraption and the phone’s processor can handle things like the accelerometer. The rear camera will also be utilized showing the “real world” at the same time. This may sound really weird, but Engadget was told they are testing it now with a Galaxy S 4, and it’s a “shockingly good experience.” Other things to note are that you can pair a gaming controller to it and you can use it as a standalone media device. It will also sport standard Samsung Android buttons like Home, Back, and Recent Apps. So now that we know a little more about the device, what do you think? Is this another crazy Samsung product? Or will it be the “Next Big Thing?” source: Engadget Come comment on this article: Samsung is collaborating with Oculus for VR headset Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more!
